Welcome to Olive et Oriel
Our first post is going to take you off to another time, another
place. Somewhere you've been before, once, but never actually managed to get there.
We are in New York. Our stomachs are full from the gastronomers evening where we severely overindulged. We have been walking along for what feels like forever, your toes feel as though they are on the verge of being frozen, the snowflakes which you originally thought of as beautiful, are now taking a vengeance as they whip across your face. Finally, we reach the perfectly rusted heavy loft doors, scrambling to find your keys in your new CC Skye Canyon satchel . As you turn the key you are taken away from the bustling, erratic streets, away from the harsh snowflakes and now, finally you are
home.
You step inside your loft, letting the heavy doors close behind you. As you take a breath in, you slump yourself over your beloved yet still perfectly white, Louis XV wing back chair and drop your bag.Looking around your home, you are so pleased that as you were renewing something old peeling back the layers of this old unconditioned loft; the wallpaper, the paints, the plaster. You decided to leave it where you left it. Raw.
Enjoy.
-O&O
So many of us decide when moving into our new, yet pre-loved home to renew where those before us left off. To add another
layer onto the once beautiful bare walls. We paint and plaster and it goes on and on, as each new
inhabitant of the house has their own idea of how their home will look most
beautiful. Yet when you step back and decide to remove, not all, but a few sections of those layers, you then can see something much more complex, something much more beautiful than another lacquer of white paint...
Now - you sit back and you can see, the years of
your loft. The history. The stories these walls could tell, through decades or possibly even centuries. The edgy, rawness of
it all. The beauty.
Instead of adding another complex, matte, flat layer to your walls - take a chance. Expose the history.
