If you are one of the lucky ones, you may have received a beautiful bunch of flowers from your beloved this Valentines Day. If not, pop down to the shops and buy yourself some... You deserve it! In fact, you should make it a weekly ritual to go to your local market and buy yourself a beautiful bunch of colourful blooms. The perfect cure to uplift your spirit and make you feel special.
Our favourite way of presenting our posies is by placing them in a variety of familiar household containers... think jars, or old tea canisters, teacups or votives. There are so many beautiful options you can choose from and we have a few inspirational photos for you below.
But first up, a little pre-water stem maintenance. Ensure you fill your vase with lukewarm water and remove any leaves that come in contact with the water (they will rot and go smelly!). Next, trim the stems at a slant of 45 degrees with sharp scissors or knife. Trim the stems and replace the water every couple of days.

Soda Water
Add 1/4 cup (60 ml) of soda water to the water and flowers already in a vase. Remember that dark soda water will turn the vase water brown. Clear soda water will not change the color of the water.
One Sweet Penny
Add sugar and a coin to the water. To make your flowers last longer, place 1 cube of sugar and 1 copper penny to the water in your vase.
Bleached Out
Mix 1L of water with 1/4 tsp. of bleach. Pour the mixture into the vase. You may also mix 1L of water with 1 tsp. of sugar and 3 drops of bleach.
Spiritual
Add vodka to the water, and maybe a splash for yourself? Mix 1 tsp. of sugar and a few drops of vodka to the water in the vase.
Sweet & Sour
Mix 1L of warm water with 2 tbsp. of white vinegar and 3 tbsp. of sugar. Place the flowers in a vase, and then pour the vinegar water into the vase. Ensure that the water rises at least 3 to 4 inches above the tips of the flowers stems.
Floral Fizz
Crush an aspirin tablet and dissolve it in the water. Your freshly cut blooms will love the fizz.
Apples for Roses
Pour water into a vase. Add 2 tbsp. of sugar and 2 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar to the

Aim your hairspray towards the underside of the petals and leaves. Hold the bottle or canister 1 foot away from the flowers and give them a light spray.
