There are some tricks that every classic lady should know and flower arranging might not seem like the most necessary skill of the bunch, but it’s a beautiful craft to master. Why? Because you’ll be able to create Pinterest-worthy arrangements for every occasion without spending a great deal of money on pre-purchased florist arrangements.
A well-arranged bouquet is a lot like a well-styled outfit: Smart layers, contrast, and personal touches. I've set out five floral arranging tips that we located to help you along with your little hobby!
1. Think Outside the Vase
Who ever decided a floral arrangement should be sentenced to life in a vase? Be creative and try placing your flowers in jars, votive, organic style bowl or even teacups, teapots or egg shells!
2. Set the Area
To make your life easier, place clear cellophane tape in a grid, across the top of your bowl, vase or jar. This is especially important if you’re working with a wide bowl because the flowers will have a tendency to fall over otherwise.
3. Cut Your Stems
To keep your flowers healthy, snip the bottom of each stem at a 45-degree angle before placing it into your 'vase' of choice. This allows the flowers to absorb the most water possible. And, if you really want to make your flowers last, cut the stems every few days.
4. Play with Texture
Uniform arrangements of one type of flower make a lovely and bold statement, but if you’re mixing multiple types, bring in a variety of textures to give it more dimension and interest. Try bunching dense flowers with pops of airier sprigs sprinkled throughout, like the arrangement below.
5. Location, location, location
To help your beautiful creation to last longer, keep it off televisions, appliances or heating or cooling units, which give off heat and wilt flowers. The ideal spot for your arrangement is somewhere out of direct sunlight and away from hot or cold drafts.
When in doubt think simple and classic and just have fun with it!
