A Crystal Skull

If your a regular reader of our blog firstly, you would have noticed that we have been somewhat subdued in our recent postings and yes, there is an excuse... Our new schedule at 'my' nine-to-fiver has been all consuming. And secondly, we are sure the title of this post grabbed you as something we wouldn't normally post about however, when we received a beautiful Christmas gift of Crystal Head Vodka how could I not make a dedicated post to something so glamorous (yes, glamorous) yet intoxicatingly cool (especially intoxicating depending how much you consume!).

Now although we are not big Vodka drinkers, the way they have presented the liquid to us was simply to beautiful not to 'need'...

To the Mayan civilization, death was the giver of life. And what a beautiful way to look at death. Personally, I've always been petrified of the loss this word brings. Yet the Mayans believed it was through the act of dying that one transcended through life into other dimensions (cool, right?!).

Now, legend has it that 13 life size crystal skulls exist carved of natural quartz crystal, some with movable jaws, that are said to "talk" or "sing." The skulls were said to be remnants from our earliest ancestors and that they contained information and knowledge. From this, Dan Aykroyd - (yep, the well-known actor, entrepreneur and spiritualist) believes in what he calls the "invisible world" partnered with fine artist John Alexander together they have obsessed over the legend of the 13 crystal heads - from this inspiration, an idea was born.

A Milan based manufacturer, Bruni Glass created the complex and beautiful skull which Aykroyd and Alexander decided would behold Vodka. And not just any Vodka... In fact, a quadruple-distillation process - which has made Crystal Head as pure as vodka can possibly be. And to add to it's beauty as a final stage, the pure liquid was then filtered through 500-million year-old crystals known as Herkimer diamonds. These Herkimer diamonds share the raw material from which the original crystal heads were carved and are thought to have similar spiritual qualities.

The end result is a perfectly pure vodka, with not a single additive. Let's repeat that... Not a single additive. In the end, the only thing required is glass and pride of place in your home for the beautiful skull which represents death, the giver of life.

Vodka, a skull and a celebration of life? We are definitely in for that!
