I want to take you on a journey, we are going to take a step through the portal and into a world through the beautiful eyes of artist, Samantha Lee. You may have seen her illustrations on our Facebook page, and since visiting her blog, 'Windmills' we have become captivated by her works.
When Samantha fuses the styles of 'traditional’ and ’digital’ illustration together, she blurs the boundaries between the two worlds. You would never know, or more-so approve of the fact she has never been 'trained' in the use of water colors.
Inspired by French and Japanese animation fused with a passion of natures elements, Samantha uses her innate desire to see life and all its complexities work in harmony, resulting in organic intoxicating illustrations.
Samantha tells us that "The moment when paint meets paper there’s a brief pause, a fluidity between brush and portrait. I want my work to feel ethereal and organic and by working with, rather than against the medium. I feel I can create my most expressive work this way." From this, she blends the softness of the watercolors with inspiration from digital animation to create expressive, almost animate images that hit us in the core of our soul.
Samantha's favorite piece is the 7ft cat and the inquisitive girl. Samantha's feelings of curiosity on the day captivate you and almost draw you into the page.
Samantha's pieces are a must to share with those around you, and to impart a collection like this to your home is such an intriguingly beautiful way to showcase your love of rare imagination and design. They would work best as stand alone large pieces or in a cluster of quirky various sized frames.
Her pieces remind us of what life could be.... Instead of what it really is. Unless...it's a dream? What we do know, is her works are ethereal and insanely addictive. We are in love.
"Don't bend; don't water it down; don't try to make it logical; don't edit your own soul according to the fashion. Rather, follow your most intense obsessions mercilessly." ~ Franz Kafka
Enjoy.
